Honduras MF: ‘First goal to send off’… Honduras MF, ‘First goal → 5 minutes to go’

There was a bizarre moment in the U-20 World Cup match between South Korea and Honduras. The midfielder who gave Honduras the lead on a penalty kick was sent off five minutes later for an unnecessary foul, giving Korea a “bottle and a pill.

Kim Eun-joong’s men’s national team drew 2-2 with Honduras in their second Group F match of the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2023 at the Mendoza Stadium in Argentina at 6 a.m. ET on June 26. With a 1-1 draw, the South Koreans finished second in the group and will have to wait for a third game to advance to the round of 16.

Unexpectedly, South Korea fell to Honduras on penalties. In the 19th minute, defender Choi Seok-hyun collided with Daniel Carter on the right side of the Korean penalty box and brought down his opponent. After a VAR review, a PK was awarded to Honduras, and midfielder David Ochoa converted the spot kick in the 22nd minute to give Korea a 1-0 lead.

South Korea’s 2-1 victory over ‘favorite’ France in the first round made the concession all the more disappointing. But within five minutes of conceding, something shocking happened.

Ochoa, who scored the opening goal, was booked in the 25th minute for an uncontested headbutt to the back of the head during a tussle with Bae Seo-Joon near the touchline. The subsequent VAR review overturned the decision and Ochoa was sent off in the 27th minute, leaving South Korea to play out the remainder of the game with a numerical advantage.

Ochoa, who had become a hero for Honduras just five minutes earlier when he converted a PK, was sent off for hitting Bae Seo-joon in the back of the head, 스포츠토토 regardless of the ball. It was a stupid foul, committed with the referee right in front of him and with no regard for the situation.

South Korea then conceded a late goal to Isaac Castillo in the sixth minute of the second half, but Kim Yong-hak in the 13th minute and Park Seung-ho in the 17th minute made it a 2-2 draw. Despite being dragged down by Ochoa, the South Koreans were able to take a point thanks to their numerical advantage.

South Korea’s place in the round of 16 will be decided in their third group game against the Gambia on Sept. 29. South Korea only needs a draw against the Gambia to advance to the round of 16.
